How would you describe your profession?
I’m an interior designer, working primarily on residential properties and I also create content for brands via social media. I have worked in the creative industries throughout my career, initially starting off as a tour booker for international, culturally diverse theatre companies, then as a theatre producer. I transitioned into interior design when my eldest was born. I wanted to build a career around family life; be present for my children, but also fulfil my creative ambition, and interior design offered that.
I love the two sides of the business I’ve developed; working with clients to help deliver and translate their ideas for their home into a design package and likewise, working with brands to create accessible content.
What inspires you to get up in the morning?
Apart from the children leaping on me, it really is, the business I’ve worked so hard to build. My youngest started school in September, which left me with varying emotions, but on a positive note, it will allow me to dedicate more time into building the business further which I’m hugely excited about.

Tell us a bit about your ‘signature interior style’ and where you get your inspiration from?
I love mixing vintage with contemporary and I am passionate about repurposing and reusing items where I can. I suppose my own style is ‘modern rustic’ with a peppering of urban-luxe which inspires me when designing others’ homes and projects. That said, I recently worked on a new development where the brief was ‘ultra-minimal’, which was a new experience for me. Inspiration comes from social media, magazines, music, restaurants, the catwalk, shops, travel – everywhere!
Has lockdown changed your perception when it comes to styling your home? I think it has, yes. Our open-plan, kitchen/dining area at home turned into a (rather hap-hazard) home-school so things had to be shuffled around in there. I wanted toys out of this area to save distraction and shifting the space about to service the demands/requirements of its users at a particular given time became quite essential. I think spaces which can be fluid depending on use is extremely useful. Not one space/room for single use and purpose, but multiple. Make the space work as hard as it possibly can for you.

Do you think lockdown may change consumers' behaviour towards interiors?
I think people will become braver in the decisions they make for their home. As many of us continue to spend more and more time working from home, I think we’ll be more confident in creating spaces which work for the individual and for the family. I also wonder if all those walls we’ve been knocking down in recent years will start to build back up again, to service both work and privacy.
What trends do you see coming to the fore looking ahead to 2021?
Colour! I think the outside in/inside out trend will continue to grow too: living walls, green tones, plants, feature walls – which I know have had a bit of a wrap in recent years, but brands are offering incredible products now from wall murals and peel-off wallpaper to large, statement tiles for bathrooms. Also, more feature lighting.

Tell us about your partnership with Geberit… I’m working with Geberit to help promote the brand regionally through my social media channels. I went to the wonderful Obsidian Interiors in Cheltenham to see the products on display and meet with the showroom manager and Interior designer, Alison Evans and ask her thoughts on the product and the trends she’s seeing.
What is your favourite Geberit product and why? Without doubt the AquaClean shower toilet! Never have I seen a remote control for a loo before. Eco friendly, incredibly clean and perfect for busy families. I love Geberit’s flat flushes too; so stylish.
What would be your top 3 tips for designing a bathroom?
Lighting – make sure it’s on various circuits to create that all-important, multi-functional / multi-mood bathroom.
Water-proof – sounds obvious but do make sure you use the right kind of paint.
Storage, storage and more storage! Also, wall hung storage (rather than floor standing) will help make the room look larger and less cluttered.
One more thing – be consistent with your brassware and finishes. Black taps? black shower. Chrome tapes? Chrome shower, and so on.
