What we do..
Who we are..
Fraser Urquhart Media are a PR and Events Company that offer a 360 degree solution for all of your print, broadcast and digital marketing needs as well as full event management and production.
Founded in 1999 and based in Leicestershire, we are one of the most established independent midlands PR, media and publishing specialists in the industry, our reputation is as strong as our contact book. We’ve spent many years figuring out what works and what doesn’t, so you don’t have to.
As a specialist publishers we produce high quality magazines for professional bodies, festivals and events as well as promotional brochures including the Birmingham Law Society Bulletin and Legal 500 West Midlands supplement alongside our own iconic magazine brands SIXTY9° & DLUXE Magazine.
A proud Geordie by heart, he moved to Leicester in the nineties to study at De Montfort University. His love affair with the city began here and continues today.
Upon graduation, he launched the iconic SIXTY9 magazine in 1999. It remains one of the most successful and influential urban lifestyle magazines in the UK, expanding its counter-culture content online and through social media.
After a decade of clubbing and creativity, he co-created the hyper luxury magazine, DLUXE, in 2008, that continues to redefine the local magazine industry with a hybrid print, online, social and e-magazine, offering highly localised editions for Leicester, Birmingham, Coventry and Midlands.
He is proud to have worked with some of the biggest and most influential brands and agencies in the world – including Rolex, Harvey Nichols, Birmingham Airport, Jaguar Land Rover, Selfridges, Paul Smith and many more.
Fraser Urquhart Media has become a major focus for the group, especially over recent years. With a redefined ethos and confidence, he realises that it’s his job – and that of his entire staff - to ‘tell stories’ that make people want to listen.
The mechanic of telling that story and connecting clients to customers is in the DNA of Fraser Urquhart Media. Utilising a lifetime of experience and one of the hottest Black Books of Contacts in the industry, Fraser Urquhart Media’s incredible team helps businesses and people fast-track their growth and success through PR, Events, Connections and Mentoring. And it’s something that Kevin is incredibly passionate and proud about, working across sectors as diverse as legal, third sector, local authority, food and drink, hospitality and cultural.
Outside of work, Kevin is obsessed with his animals, training in the gym, eating cake (hence gym) and RuPaul’s Drag Race. He and his partner, Jon, have just completed the refurbishment of a 600-year-old, Grade 2 listed property and may be up for another project. Overall, though, Kevin would like to be thought of as a loyal and honest friend, with a naughty glint in his eye.
Co-founder, Kevin Urquhart is one half of the PR and Publishing company, Fraser Urquhart Media – aka FU Media. Jon moved to Leicester chasing lasers in the nineties after studying drama and voice – skills he still uses to full effect in the office now!
Starting his career at The Leicester Mercury, Jon carried on writing as a hobby as he found himself working in IT financial system solutions,. He launched the iconic SIXTY9 magazine in 1999, with Kevin, before moving full time from computer nerd to a bearded creative in 2004.
Jon took on the title of Group Editor in Chief, writing, managing, and editing both SIXTY9 and Dluxe magazines as well as multiple corporate titles for outside companies. Jon set up Fraser Urquhart Media with Kevin after years of working with clients who were being let down by their PR companies.
Since then Jon has directed Sir Ian McKellen, launched an international Paralympic tournament shown live on the BBC, opened venues, launched products, managed live broadcasts and pre-recorded TV and radio features, produced syndicated interviews, media coached and celebrity chaperoned, appeared as a commentator and pundit, worked with The Guardian on the first immersive 360° theatre performance, guest lectured at universities and got a project trending nationally at number 2 on Twitter.
Outside of the office Jon is a prolific theatre goer, film fan and reader. He has renovated multiple properties; from rewiring to wallpapering and has traded in rare and unusual antiques and collectibles. A self proclaimed petrol head, Jon can often be found with his head under a bonnet and is also a keen traveller.
PR Account Director
With over 13 years of experience in the PR industry, I’ve worked in-house for a variety of well-known brands as well as for the agencies who support them. My PR career started at Next, in the Regional & International PR team, which took me around the UK, Ireland, Prague, Russia and even to Australia! Working for such a big business was a great way to learn, develop and hone my skills ready for the next adventure.
After seven years at Next, my career journey took me back up to the North East (my homeland) and into PR agency life, working with clients such as Dr Martens, Goldsmiths, Parkdean Resorts, Flymo, Fenwick and more. The fast-paced environment and variety of clients kept me on my toes and further developed my skills within the industry.
Meeting my now-husband brought me back down to the Midlands and back in-house working for Holland & Barrett, where I headed up the PR team and managed an external PR agency. I then moved to Fraser Urquhart Media, where I’ve been for the last two years, working closely with the team to build our PR portfolio and support existing clients such as Voluntary Action LeicesterShire, Coventry BID, Leicester City Council, Open Door Interiors, BID Leicester, The Lasan Group and more. We are a small but mighty team and I’m incredibly proud to be part of it.
Outside work, I spend time with my husband and mischievous Shichon puppy, Bertie. We live in an old house which we’re slowly renovating, love to travel (when we’re allowed!) and are partial to good food and a few G&T’s! I’m a very proud Geordie, adore my family and friends, have recently taken up running again and love musical theatre (watching, not performing – I have no vocal skills whatsoever!)
Senior PR Account Manager
In 2012 my very first day of my first job in the marketing team at Leicester City Council was the day the search for the remains of King Richard III began. They gave the campaign to the new girl, not knowing how events would unfold! The next 3 years were the best learning experience I could have hoped for. I delivered the campaign for an exhibition on the archaeological search, which became the most visited exhibition in Leicester Museums history at the time. This led to launching the permanent King Richard III Visitor Centre in the city – named as one of Lonely Planet’s hottest new attractions in 2015 – and the project culminated with the reinterment of the King in March 2015. Record-breaking visitor numbers and worldwide news coverage… not bad for the new girl, eh?
In between the King in the Car Park, I worked on heritage, museums, and festivals campaigns in Leicester, including re-branding and launching the Visit Leicester website and delivering the communications campaign for Leicester City Football Club’s Premier League Victory Parade in 2016.
I moved to BID Leicester in 2018, where I planned and delivered all marketing and communications activity, managing agencies and suppliers to deliver some brilliant projects. From launching Independent Leicester – a brand and digital campaign supporting independent businesses in the city – to organising events and delivering my first TV campaign (with a small cameo role, of course!), my career continued to be a labour of love for the city I call home.
And now I am here, at Fraser Urquhart Media, writing this biog on my first week in the job! I’m looking forward to developing my PR knowledge by learning from the team here, as well as bringing my experience and creativity to help deliver outstanding projects and successes for our clients going forward.
Outside of work I am huge sports fan, travelling to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and to Australia for the 2017-18 Ashes series. I love cooking, hosting dinner parties and eating out… basically anything to do with food! I like new challenges; in lockdown I learnt to crochet (spoiler to anyone who knows me: you’ll get a hat for Christmas), and I’m currently taking Spanish lessons por que quiero viajar en America Latina. When I want to switch off, I’ll curl up with a book or put on a podcast, light a candle and get under my cosiest blanket… because as much as I love adventure, home comforts make me happiest.
PR & Content Executive
In 2019, I originally joined the Fraser Urquhart team as an intern on work experience after just finishing my Media diploma at Leicester College and deciding that I didn’t want to go university. From there, Kevin and Jon took me under their wing and have given me over a year of PR, Marketing, and publishing experience. I work closely with Francesca in developing digital content for online and on social media, I have also worked alongside Rebecca on PR Pitches such as The Grand Hotel Birmingham and Open Door Interiors as well as helping with research for clients and brainstorming ideas.
With now over a year worth of experience I have been able to take on more responsibility and work even closer with clients such as Harvey Nichols, Complete Health and Protection, Nucleus HR and Independent Leicester. This has allowed me to expand my knowledge of both PR and Digital Marketing and gain me experience that I would not have gotten at University. With my first year at Fraser Urquhart Media taking place during a pandemic I have been able to develop my resilience that I have passed down into my work.
My favourite part of working at Fraser Urquhart Media is the diverse workload, from PR, Marketing and Publishing every day is different and exciting! I enjoy creating social media campaigns for clients and creating engaging content that allows me to express my creativity all while developing a strong portfolio of work. I have also worked on the companies iconic magazines SIXTY9 and DLUXE, and helped create content for our readers in both print and online.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my friends and going out (pre-covid), binging every murder mystery series on Netflix, Ru Paul’s Drag Race (of course!), going on holiday with my best friend and dressing up to go out for food at a fancy restaurant.
