It’s beginning to look a lot like a White Christmas at Queen Victoria Arts Club in Leicester

December 3, 2018

Stars of the stage took a break from rehearsals to help dress the tree and launch the restaurant’s festive menu at the newly opened restaurant, based opposite the theatre in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter.

Business owner Cassie Soulsby invited the cast and crew to come and enjoy a glass of fizz and hear about the new show arriving on stage for the festive season.

This will be the restaurant’s first Christmas since it opened in October, following a £650,000 investment on the Grade 2 listed building. The Queen Victoria Art’s Club can accommodate 80 covers and downstairs has room for 50, alongside private meeting spaces, and dining rooms.

Stars of the festive menu includes a starter of Ham Hock & Chicken Terrine with Spiced Apple Chutney & Sour Dough Thins; a main course of Pan-fried Turkey Escalope with Charred Cabbage & Chestnuts, Bubble & Squeak and Sour Cranberry Jus and a dessert of Steamed Plum Pudding with Brandy Sauce for a price of £30. Other options are available.

Cassie said: “It was an absolute joy and pleasure to welcome the cast from White Christmas to our restaurant to give them a well-deserved break from rehearsals. We are proud to work alongside Curve and cannot wait to go and see the show in a few days’ time. There is always an open invitation for the cast to return and sample the festive menu too in-between shows or to celebrate the end of the run.”

In the spirit of the season, Emma Williams, Monique Young and Dan Burton from White Christmas also invited Cassie to see the show, which will be performed at the iconic theatre from Thursday 6th December until Sunday 13th January.

Based on the Paramount Pictures film of the same name starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and book by David Ives and Paul Blake, White Christmas tells the story of Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis and their successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en-route for their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former Army commander. Featuring a dazzling, instantly recognisable score including Blue Skies, Sisters, Count your Blessings and arguably the most famous Christmas song of them all, White Christmas, Irving Berlin’s beloved Broadway sensation is an enduring tale of friendship, camaraderie, hope and the pursuit of happiness, told through spectacular dance routines and some of the greatest musical theatre songs ever written.
